DESCRIPTION: Join the Irvine Ranch Conservancy staff and docents on our 2022 IRC/OC-CNPS field trip led by Matt Garrambone, Program Director with IRC. This year we hope to have a special and unique experience within the vast 50,000-acre Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks property of WEIR CANYON NATURE PRESERVE, home to many interesting native plants and annual wildflowers as well as numerous insects, reptiles, birds, and other wildlife. Participants will be driving on bumpy roads in IRC vehicles, including some in an open-air vehicle. Once parked, we will hike the newly aligned Overlook Trail Extension from Upper Weir Canyon to Upper Blind Canyon, with several stops for botanizing, natural history discussions, geological highlights and more. Please feel free to bring a sack lunch. This field trip is limited to the first 18 CNPS members who register.
MORE INFO: Physical Difficulty: Moderate to difficult, with driving on occasionally rough dirt roads. Moderate walking distances with some inclines. Plant Intensity: Moderate to high, especially wildflowers. Start 9 am AM, duration approx. 6-7 hours. Registration and other trip details will be posted as they become available.
