Trip Recap

A very small group. We scoured the grasslands thoroughly and sighted and marked the locations of several Brodiaeas. The species observed during the trip included Brodiaea terrestris ssp. kernensis, Brodiaea filifolia and the recently described new species Brodiaea santarosea. Distinguishing features of the three species were observed and discussed, including such features as staminoide shape and structure, tepal size, filiments and more.

The clay soils and Avena grassland here are a a magnet for Brodiaeas.
