{tab=Trip Recap}

A beautiful day greeted 18 members and friends as we walked the Santiago Truck Trail, noting and enjoying the large variety of plants as we went. Annual wildflowers were in good display and many perenniels were also quite showy. The group was especially fortunate to have Gloria and John Sefton along. Gloria is the co-founder of The Saddleback Canyons Conservancy, a group dedicated to preserving the rural character and open spaces of our mountain foothills.

The trip was broken into two halves, a shorter version that included about 3.5 to 4 miles and a longer trip that totalled a little over 8 miles. Some of the highlights included Phacelia hubbyi, Xylococcus bicolor, Comarostaphylis diversifolia and beautiful displays of California poppies, four species of lupine and many other annuals. For a complete list of plants identified along this portion of the trail click the "Plant List" tab.
